Piano Tuning & Piano Repairs

Proper piano maintenance requires regular tuning as often as required. For example, temperature changes within your home and frequent playing will affect your piano’s tuning needs. Twice a year is recommended.

You can be assured that our tuners will advise you of any issues with your piano. They are qualified to diagnose and perform any minor repairs during their tuning session (for instance a sticky key) at no additional charge. Further repairs, such as replacing your piano’s strings can also be done at home. For more extensive repairs your piano should be brought into the shop.

Pitch Adjustment:
If a piano has not been serviced in many years, it may require a pitch adjustment. This is due to the overall tension of the strings becoming significantly flat, or sometimes overly sharp. The pitch can either be corrected during the same visit or in stages with a pitch-correction now and another tuning for stability in a short period of time.

When should it be done?

• When a piano is tuned on a regular basis and is kept in an environment with a steady climate, the need for a pitch adjustment is decreased
• The age, overall condition, and last tuning will determine whether this service is required

Action Regulation:
Regulation is the periodic adjustment of action parts to compensate for wear, compacting, and settling of cloth and felt. Regulation is affected by atmospheric changes, and the amount of use.

When should it be done?

• Most new and rebuilt pianos will need to be regulated to some extent within six months to one year, based on the initial settling of cloth parts
• Frequency of regulation will depend on the use

Voicing:
Voicing is the adjustment of the density or hardness of the hammer felts, in order to adjust the pianos tone.

When should it be done?

• New and rebuilt pianos may sound quite bright after six months to a year of use, and may need some voicing
• Voicing depends on how much the piano is used, whether the tonal quality is optimal, and personal preference

Cleaning and Detailing:
The pianos interior and exterior is thoroughly cleaned. The soundboard of a grand piano is intricate and a detailing should only be carried out by a technician to protect internal parts.

When should it be done?

• If a piano is noticeably dirty, and or has not been cleaned in some time
• For maintenance purposes it is recommended to have the piano professionally cleaned on a yearly basis, therefore every second tuning it is recommended
